A sudden shaking or trembling of the earth which lasts for a very short time is called earthquake
● the fragmented outer most layer of earth called plates are in continual motion.when they collide or brust past each other ,disturbance occur causing tremors
●it occurs all the time but less intensity which are not noticeable .major earthquakes are very less frequent
●Earthquakes can not be predicted it can cause floods landslides ,volcanic eruption and tsunami
●Earthquakes are more likely to occur near boundries of the plate which are weak zone and also ,known as seismic zones or fault zones
●the power of an earthquake is expressed in terms of magnitude on a scale called the richter scale .an earthquake of magnitude higher than 7 on richter scale is very destruct the tremors produce waves on the earth's surface called seismic waves which are recorded by an instrument called seismograph
●safety measures for earthquake are
1) the building in seismic zones should be made earthquake safe i.e .roofs should be light
2) it can causes fire,so building should have firefighting equipments
3)when earthquake strike take shelter under table and stay away from heavy structures or equipments either outdoor or indoor
4)if you are in care or bus drive slowly to clear spot do not come out till the tremors stop
